Gar Keaton
Founder and Chairman of the Board of Emergency Technologies, Inc.
Mr. Keaton founded Emergency Technologies, Inc. (ETI) in 1995 to develop mobile solutions for Fire and EMS departments. Based upon prior experience, he believed that it was critical that the information systems used by Fire and EMS departments contain a robust, flexible, and affordable mobile component and that such a system was not available at the time. He initially worked with customers to develop detailed requirements for a mobile solution using commercially available hardware and system software. The system that was developed is today known as Visual Fire and Visual EMS and it is successfully serving hundreds of Fire & EMS departments.
Prior to founding ETI, Mr. Keaton created the IBM Mid Atlantic E911 Public Safety Group. Mr. Keaton served as a Senior Consultant in IBM’s Public Safety & Justice Group and led projects that focused upon County wide, or City wide information systems that needed to share data and where IBM was typically the prime contractor. These projects typically included E911, Tax, Planning, Law Enforcement, Human Services, IT, Health, Elections, Register of Deeds, and Administration departments. Prior to that, Mr. Keaton served as Systems Engineer with IBM’s Federal Systems Division and was involved with a number of large, complex projects primarily for the Department of Defense. Mr. Keaton holds a M.S. and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina, and a B.S., Biology from Wofford College.
